Ditch Vinegar and Baking Soda for Oven Cleaning: Soda Crystals Are the Real Deal

Oven cleaning can be a daunting task, especially when you’re using the wrong products. While vinegar and baking soda are often touted as the go-to cleaning solutions, there’s a natural product that one woman claims “worked better” – and cleaning experts agree.

Becca Dwyer took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page to share her experience cleaning her mother’s oven. The oven door was covered in stubborn, dark brown grease and grime, and she had tried a variety of cleaning methods without success. “I’ve tried Pink Stuff paste, Elbow Grease cream, dishwasher tablet, aerial pod also baking soda and vinegar but nothing shifted it,” she wrote.

Becca’s frustration with traditional methods led her to try something different – soda crystals. “Someone then suggested soda crystals to me and it worked so much better than anything I’ve tried. It’s now sparkling,” she shared.

Experts at Dri-Pak also support the effectiveness of soda crystals. They explained that the combination of baking soda and vinegar is ineffective for oven cleaning because the acid in vinegar neutralizes the alkalinity of baking soda, which is what dissolves grease. “Soda crystals are excellent for dissolving grease and working on stubborn, burnt-on food,” they said.

To use soda crystals for oven cleaning, you can create a strong solution or liberally spray liquid soda crystals onto the oven door and other surfaces. Allow the soda crystals to work for at least 20 minutes before wiping down the oven. For stubborn areas, you can apply dry soda crystals as an abrasive and scrub with a cloth.

In addition to soda crystals, another natural cleaning method for oven door glass is lemons. One cleaning influencer claims she’ll never use store-bought oven cleaner again after discovering the power of lemons.

So, ditch the vinegar and baking soda and give soda crystals a try. Your oven will thank you! You can find soda crystals online at retailers like Big Green Smile, Ethical Superstore, and Amazon, as well as in liquid form on eBay, Big Green Smile, and Amazon.
