DMDK Demands Recount in Virudhunagar Lok Sabha Constituency

Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant has demanded a recount of votes in the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency, where her son Vijayaprabhakaran lost to B. Manickam Tagore of the Congress by a narrow margin of 4,379 votes.

Addressing reporters, Vijayakant alleged foul play and claimed that poll officials were pressured during the election. She requested the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the recount under the supervision of a retired judge and stated that the party would accept the outcome whatever it may be.

She expressed disappointment that her son, who represented a younger generation, was not allowed to win by a party with a long history.

Regarding the party’s performance in other constituencies, Vijayakant said that DMDK accepts the verdict of the people and will continue its alliance, working towards victory in future elections.

When asked about the possibility of approaching the High Court for a recount, Vijayakant acknowledged that legal avenues were available but noted that such cases often take years to resolve.

In response, Tagore dismissed Vijayakant’s allegations and urged her to accept the defeat.
