Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Issues Advisory Due to Kejriwal’s Planned Protest
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued an advisory for passengers traveling on the metro due to a planned protest led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal outside the BJP headquarters. According to the DMRC, the entry/exit at the ITO Metro station will remain closed until further notice.
Kejriwal Challenges PM Modi, Plans Protest
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrest all AAP leaders, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fueling internal conflict within the party as it fears defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. Kejriwal announced that senior party leaders would march towards the BJP headquarters at 12 pm on Sunday, which is located near the ITO region amid the ongoing “Swati Maliwal controversy.”
The Swati Maliwal Case
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has alleged that Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, assaulted her when she visited the CM’s office in Civil Lines. Maliwal filed an FIR against Kumar, stating that he slapped her multiple times and physically assaulted her. The incident reportedly occurred on May 13.
The BJP has condemned the incident and demanded swift justice for Maliwal. The party has labeled the AAP as “anti-women” and called on CM Kejriwal to resign. Meanwhile, the AAP has defended itself, claiming that BJP is politicizing the matter and that Maliwal’s allegations are baseless. Bibhav Kumar has filed a counter-complaint with the police, accusing Maliwal of trespassing and verbal abuse.
Latest Developments
The Delhi Police have arrested Bibhav Kumar and obtained a five-day custody order. Police have recorded statements from witnesses present during the alleged assault on May 13. A city court has ruled that Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea has become infructuous due to his arrest. AAP leader Atishi has alleged that the timing of Kumar’s arrest coincides with the hearing of his anticipatory bail plea, suggesting a conspiracy by BJP to disrupt AAP’s election campaign and target Arvind Kejriwal.
