The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has issued a notification regarding admissions for students belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in private schools of the national capital for the academic year 2024-25. As per the notification, registration for admissions will commence on April 30th and conclude on May 15th, 2024. Parents of aspiring students can register their children for admission through the official website of the DoE at edudel.nic.in. Private schools in Delhi are mandated to reserve 25% of their seats for students from EWS, disadvantaged groups, and children with special needs (CWSN). The allocation of these EWS seats will be done through a computerized lottery system. The lottery draw for the 2024-25 academic year is scheduled to take place on May 20th, 2024. The DoE has provided age criteria for admission in different classes. For preschool and nursery classes, children should be between 3 and 5 years of age for EWS and disadvantaged groups (DG) categories, while for children with disabilities (CWD) or CWSN categories, the age limit is between 3 and 7 years. For admission in pre-primary or KG classes, the age criteria for EWS and DG categories is between 4 and 6 years, and for CWD and CWSN categories, it is between 4 and 8 years. For admission in primary or class 1, children should be between 5 and 7 years of age for EWS and DG categories, and between 5 and 9 years for CWD and CWSN categories. To be eligible for admission under the EWS/DG categories, the aspiring candidate must be a permanent resident of Delhi, and the family income of the student should not exceed 2.5 lakhs per annum. Parents are required to submit the following documents for admission under EWS/DG categories: birth certificate, income certificate, domicile certificate, ration card, parents’ ID, and a certificate of disability (if the child falls under the CWSN category). It is crucial to note that the admission of a child may be canceled if the documents submitted at the time of admission are found to be forged or fake. Criminal proceedings may also be initiated against such parents or guardians. If multiple or duplicate entries are found at any stage, it may result in the cancellation of the candidature or admission. Parents are advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria and admission process to ensure a smooth and successful application for their children.
