The Oakland Roots have announced a major signing with the addition of former United States Men’s National Team player Dom Dwyer. The experienced striker boasts a decade-long career in Major League Soccer (MLS), where he won the MLS Cup with Sporting Kansas City and played for several other top clubs, including Orlando City SC, Toronto FC, and Atlanta United. In his MLS career, Dwyer has netted over 60 goals, with his most prolific season coming in 2014 when he found the back of the net 22 times.
Dwyer’s international experience includes four caps for the USMNT, during which he scored against Ghana in a friendly and against Panama in the 2017 Gold Cup, which the team won. He also has experience in the United Soccer League (USL), having played on loan with Orlando in 2013.
Roots Head Coach Noah Delgado expressed excitement about Dwyer’s addition, stating that his experience at the highest levels of the game will be invaluable to the team. Dwyer’s goal-scoring prowess is expected to give the Roots a significant boost in their attacking capabilities.
Prior to joining the Roots, Dwyer was married to United States Women’s National Team striker Sydney Leroux, with whom he has two children. However, the couple announced their divorce in 2021.
