On Tuesday evening, Dominic Fike hosted a spontaneous release party in West Hollywood, where he debuted his captivating visual project, ’14 Minutes.’ This project showcases eight brand-new songs that are currently unavailable on streaming platforms. Each song is interwoven into a captivating long-form video, capturing Fike’s solitary run along the roadside with headphones immersed in sound.
Jack Begert brought this video to life with creative direction from Reed Bennett. Fike’s approach to this project reflects his unconstrained artistry, with no distinct transitions between songs or explicit mention of their titles. The fluidity of the release mirrors Fike’s desire for immediate sharing, rejecting the traditional industry timelines and expectations.
Fike expressed his gratitude to the audience who gathered on short notice for the event, stating, “Thank everyone so much for coming here to a random warehouse to watch a video that I have projected onto a truck with me running and that’s pretty much what it is.” He shared his passion for these songs, admitting, “This is a collection of eight of those songs that I really can’t stop listening to and I can’t live without.”
Fike elaborated on his frustrations with industry norms, saying, “I just get tired of holding it back, I think that shit is wack. … You know? I get tired of that. And so here’s this — it’s just me running and it’s just me making music and that’s it.”
Fike’s latest studio release, ‘Sunburn,’ debuted in July 2023, earning critical acclaim. Rolling Stone included ‘Sunburn’ on its list of the 100 Best Albums of 2023, highlighting Fike’s introspective songwriting and artistic growth.
