Donald Trump Faces First Criminal Charges in His History: Prosecutors Present Case on Hush-Money Scheme

The allegations center around payments to two women, pornographic actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claimed to have had extramarital affairs with Trump years prior. Additionally, payments were made to a Trump Tower doorman who alleged having information about a child Trump had out of wedlock. Trump has denied any sexual encounters that would warrant the hush money, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

New York state has one of the strictest laws in the nation governing media coverage of court proceedings. Restrictions on media coverage in courtrooms date back almost a century, influenced by the sensationalism of the 1935 trial involving the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh’s baby son. However, in the interest of government transparency, video cameras have gradually been permitted in courtrooms nationwide, often at the discretion of presiding judges.

Trump arrived at the Manhattan courthouse on Monday morning for opening statements in his hush money trial. He walked straight into the courthouse after arriving in his motorcade from Trump Tower.
