Donald Trump’s New York Gun License Faces Revocation

Former US President Donald Trump’s license to carry a concealed weapon in New York is facing permanent revocation following his conviction on 34 felony counts in Manhattan. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has reportedly issued instructions for Trump to surrender all his firearms by his sentencing date on July 11th.

Individuals convicted of felonies are prohibited from possessing firearms under both state and federal law. Trump has the option to apply for a ‘certificate of relief from civil disabilities’ if he wishes to retain his weapons. However, his legal team has yet to file a petition in this regard.

Trump’s gun license application in New York was reportedly marked confidential, making its details inaccessible to the public. Another potential avenue for Trump to hold onto his weapons is if an appeals court overturns his felony convictions in Manhattan.

A day before his license was suspended last year, Trump reportedly turned over two of his firearms to the NYPD. He also legally transferred a third gun to Florida. However, holding onto the third firearm could further complicate matters for the former president following his felony conviction.

Convicted felons have the option to transfer their firearms to a nearby police precinct or legally transfer ownership to another individual. Trump previously stated to a French magazine that he always carried a weapon with him following a series of attacks in Paris in 2016.

The precise details of Trump’s gun collection remain undisclosed due to the confidentiality of his license application. It remains to be seen whether he will pursue legal avenues to retain his weapons or fully comply with the NYPD’s instructions by surrendering them by July 11th.
