Bethesda Unveils Doom: The Dark Ages, a Medieval Adventure Coming to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation
Bethesda has unveiled Doom: The Dark Ages, an intriguing new installment in the renowned first-person shooter series that takes players back to a medieval setting. The game, scheduled for release in 2025, will be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, as well as on Xbox Game Pass.
Doom: The Dark Ages serves as a prequel to the series, showcasing the Doomslayer clad in animal fur and sporting a formidable shield with blades. Equipped with his signature shotgun, he embarks on a quest to vanquish hordes of demons. However, this time, he possesses a unique ability to rev up his shield like a chainsaw and hurl it at his adversaries, reminiscent of Captain America’s iconic shield-throwing.
One of the notable aspects of Doom: The Dark Ages is its cross-platform availability. Despite Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, the game will be released for both Xbox and PlayStation consoles. This decision aligns with the multiplatform nature of previous Doom games before id Software’s incorporation into Bethesda.
Bethesda’s commitment to cross-platform releases has been evident in the past. In recent months, the company has brought several former Xbox exclusives to rival platforms, including Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves. Speculation abounds regarding the potential for additional Xbox titles to make their way to PlayStation and Switch, including Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Senua’s Sacrifice: Hellblade II.
The official trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages, released during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, provides a glimpse into the game’s captivating medieval setting and the Doomslayer’s formidable arsenal. The footage showcases his ability to ride a dragon, highlighting the game’s fantasy elements. With its gripping narrative, engaging combat, and stunning visuals, Doom: The Dark Ages promises to deliver an unforgettable gaming experience that will appeal to fans of the series and newcomers alike.
