Dr. Anthony Fauci will appear publicly before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic on June 3, 2024. This will be his first testimony since retiring from public service. The subcommittee’s ranking member, Republican Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup, sent a letter to Fauci outlining the agreement for his testimony, which includes two days of transcribed interviews and a public hearing.
Fauci’s upcoming testimony will come in the wake of revelations that EcoHealth Alliance President Dr. Peter Daszak may have misled Congress about his company’s work on gain-of-function research and their involvement with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. During his closed-door testimony in January, Fauci told the subcommittee that the six-feet-apart social distancing recommendation “sort of just appeared,” and that “he signed off on every foreign and domestic NIAID grant without personally reviewing the proposals.”
Fauci’s testimony is expected to shed light on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. government’s response to it. It is likely to be closely watched by both supporters and critics of Fauci, who has been a controversial figure throughout the pandemic.
