Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Release Date, Gameplay, and Everything We Know

BioWare has had a challenging few years, facing criticism after the release of ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ and ‘Anthem.’ However, fans are eagerly anticipating the return to the Dragon Age universe with the upcoming ‘Dragon Age: The Veilguard’ (formerly known as ‘Dreadwolf’).

While a firm release date hasn’t been announced, EA’s financial calendar suggests a launch window between October 1st and December 31st, 2024. During San Diego Comic-Con, BioWare hinted at an official release date reveal sometime in August.

The game is confirmed to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and based on its timing, it’s unlikely to be available for last-generation consoles.

The first teaser trailer showcased the return of Solas, a key character from ‘Dragon Age: Inquisition,’ and teased a vibrant fantasy world. The trailer also featured a red lyrium idol, a significant artifact from ‘Dragon Age II,’ hinting at its potential role in the upcoming game’s storyline.

BioWare has revealed some intriguing details about the narrative, stating that ‘The Veilguard’ will address long-standing questions from the series while also offering a compelling story for new players. Codex entries, designed to provide a deeper dive into the world, will dynamically unlock during gameplay.

‘Dragon Age Day 2023’ brought a brief teaser with images of maps and potential in-game locations, confirming a full reveal in summer 2024.

The Official Gameplay Reveal offered an extended look at an early section of the game. It showcased the player character Rook, with customization options for appearance, backstory, and class, including Rogue, Warrior, and Mage. The classic dialogue wheel returns, with choices potentially impacting the game’s narrative.

Combat in ‘The Veilguard’ features a tactical approach, allowing players to strategize attacks with their two companions. The combat system resembles Arkham games, allowing for fluid movement and a focus on dodging and parrying.

Preorders for ‘The Veilguard’ are not yet available, but considering previous releases, BioWare is likely to offer multiple editions with various preorder bonuses.
