British tennis star Jack Draper is making a swift return to the court after a grueling US Open campaign. The 22-year-old, who fell to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinals at Flushing Meadows, is prioritizing his fitness after battling the heat and humidity of New York.
Draper, who was seen vomiting three times during the second set of his US Open semifinal, is now working with his team to recover. “After a short turnaround following the U.S. Open, Jack will be joining the team in Manchester on Tuesday ahead of the first match on Wednesday,” a spokesperson for Draper told British media. “Jack and his team are working hard to get fit and Leon (Smith) will take all this into account when he makes his team selection,” they added.
Captain Leon Smith’s Davis Cup squad is set for a challenging Group D campaign. They’ll take on Finland on Wednesday, followed by Argentina on Friday, and 2022 champions Canada on Sunday. With Draper’s health a key concern, the team’s performance will depend on his recovery and Captain Smith’s strategic team selection. The anticipation is high as the British team hopes to make a strong showing in the prestigious Davis Cup tournament.
