Drew Barrymore had to tone down her performance in the 1999 romantic comedy “Never Been Kissed” due to concerns from studio executives.
Barrymore, now 49, recalled the experience during the April 19th episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show”. She explained that at the time, there was skepticism about actors producing films.
The actress revealed that she received notes from executives who expressed concerns about her appearance, telling her she looked “too unattractive”. She initially resisted their feedback but eventually agreed to alter her performance after they appealed to her sensibilities rather than her ego.
Barrymore explained that she dialed back her performance as Josie Gellar, and the result was a more balanced character that resonated with audiences. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to tell the story and the success of the film, which allowed her to continue pursuing her passion for acting and producing.
