In a chilling footage, a drink driver was captured heading the wrong way on the M1 motorway, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic. The reckless motorist, a man in his 30s, was under the influence of alcohol and more than three times over the legal limit, according to police. The incident occurred on March 9th at 2:45 am, when the driver entered the fast lane of the M1 near Sheffield, driving towards oncoming traffic. As lorries thundered past him, the driver continued slowly down the lane closest to the central reservation. Police received numerous calls about the erratic driving, with motorists taking evasive action to avoid collisions. Traffic camera footage revealed that the vehicle had traveled on the wrong side of the motorway for two junctions before finally exiting the carriageway. When stopped by officers, the driver was breathalyzed and blew 125 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, compared to the legal limit of 35. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and dangerous driving, and remains on police bail. Roads Policing Inspector Matt Collings emphasized the severity of the incident and the potential for a fatal collision, highlighting the devastating effects of alcohol on judgment and reaction time. The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of drink driving and the importance of responsible road use.
