Drone Attack Targets US Troops in Syria, No Injuries Reported

US troops stationed in northeastern Syria came under attack from a drone, a US official revealed to Reuters on Friday, August 9. Fortunately, initial reports indicate that no injuries occurred. This incident marks the second recent attack against US forces in the Middle East, adding to tensions in the region as it braces for potential escalations involving Iran and its allies. Earlier this week, five US personnel were injured when two Katyusha rockets struck the Ain al-Assad airbase in western Iraq. The Pentagon attributed this attack to Iran-backed proxy groups. The US maintains a military presence of 900 troops in Syria and 2,500 in neighboring Iraq. Their stated mission is to advise and assist local forces in preventing a resurgence of the Islamic State (IS), which had seized significant territory in both countries in 2014 before being pushed back.
