Dubai has set a new standard for inclusivity by becoming the first city in the world to receive the Certified Autism Center (CAC) accreditation for its public beaches. This significant achievement was announced during Dubai Municipality’s participation in the AccessAbilities Expo 2024, a platform dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities. The CAC recognition underscores Dubai’s commitment to providing accessible and welcoming environments for all visitors, solidifying its position as a global leader in tourism and inclusivity.
The International Board of Certification and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) bestowed the CAC certification upon Dubai’s public beaches after a rigorous evaluation process. The beaches have been equipped with a range of features designed to cater to the specific needs of individuals with autism, creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all. This includes specially designed facilities, trained staff, and educational programs aimed at promoting understanding and awareness about autism.
Ibrahim Mohammad Juma, Director of Public Beaches and Water Canals Department at Dubai Municipality, expressed immense pride in this accomplishment, highlighting the municipality’s dedication to providing comprehensive services that cater to the diverse needs of the community. The certification not only showcases Dubai’s commitment to accessibility but also reinforces its position as a premier tourist destination.
Myron Pincombe, CEO and Chairman of the International Council for Accreditation Standards and Continuing Education, commended Dubai Municipality’s forward-thinking approach to creating a welcoming environment for all visitors. The accreditation signifies the municipality’s dedication to ensuring that public beaches are accessible and enjoyable for everyone, providing a platform for both residents and tourists to experience the beauty and relaxation of Dubai’s coastline.
This achievement is part of a broader initiative by Dubai Municipality to promote inclusivity across all public facilities, ensuring the comfort and enjoyment of every individual. By achieving the CAC certification, Dubai has set a global benchmark for inclusive tourism, encouraging other cities and destinations to prioritize accessibility and create welcoming environments for individuals with autism and their families.
