The Xbox Series S, a more affordable console option, has presented unique challenges for game developers due to its less powerful hardware. This was recently highlighted by Scott Junior, the chief product officer of Funcom, the developer behind the anticipated open-world MMORPG, *Dune: Awakening*.
During a recent interview with VG247, Junior acknowledged that optimizing *Dune: Awakening* for the Series S has been demanding. “So, it’s one of the reasons we’re coming out on PC first. There’s a lot of optimisations we need to do before we release on the Xbox. But yeah, Xbox Series S is a challenge,” he stated.
Despite the challenges, Funcom is committed to releasing *Dune: Awakening* on the Series S, as well as older PC systems. This commitment reflects the company’s strategy of reaching the widest possible audience by releasing their games across numerous platforms. “…[Dune: Awakening] will still perform well on hardware that’s years and years old. We’ll be able to do it!” Junior confidently remarked.
The first open beta for *Dune: Awakening* is set to launch in 2025. Until then, Funcom will continue to work on optimizing the game for various platforms, including the Xbox Series S, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience for players across a broad range of hardware.
