Armand Duplantis, the reigning Olympic champion and world record holder in the pole vault, continued his incredible run of form by winning the Lausanne Diamond League competition on Wednesday. He soared to a meeting record of 6.15 meters, adding another victory to his already impressive resume.
The 24-year-old Swede cleared the bar with ease, needing just four jumps to secure the win at a height of 6.0 meters. He then raised the bar to 6.15 meters, a new meeting record, clearing it on his third attempt.
“It’s always nerve-wracking when you have a big performance like I did at the Olympics,” Duplantis said to reporters. “I stepped out on the track today and I really loved it.”
Duplantis’s victory came just two weeks after he captured his second consecutive Olympic title in Paris with a stunning world-record jump of 6.25 meters. This was his ninth world record in the pole vault.
The American Olympic silver medalist, Sam Kendricks, finished in second place with a height of 5.92 meters. Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, Australia’s Kurtis Marschall, and E.J. Obiena of the Philippines tied for third place at 5.82 meters.
The remainder of the Lausanne Diamond League program is scheduled for Thursday at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise.
