East Bengal’s Jesin TK Scores Winning Goal, Shows Solidarity for Flood-Hit Wayanad

East Bengal continued its winning run at the Durand Cup 2024, securing a 3-1 victory over Downtown Heroes at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Wednesday. The match saw a standout performance from substitute Jesin TK, who came on in the 82nd minute for Madih Talal, the initial goal scorer for the Red and Gold Brigade.

In the third minute of stoppage time during the second half, Jesin capitalized on a defensive lapse by Downtown. He skillfully created space with a few deft shoulder drops before expertly placing the ball into the top left corner, securing all three points for the home side.

Following his first senior team goal for East Bengal, the Malappuram, Kerala-born forward made a powerful statement of solidarity. He donned a shirt bearing a message of support for Wayanad, a district in northern Kerala currently battling devastating floods. The shirt read, “Stay strong Wayanad. We are with you. This is for you.”

Jesin joined the Indian Super League team in 2022. His goal and gesture of solidarity have garnered attention and praise, highlighting the power of sport to unite and show compassion during times of hardship.
