Due to heavy rainfall on Monday, the Eastern Cape is experiencing flooding and mudslides in several areas. As a precaution, authorities temporarily closed certain routes to clear debris. Flooding submerged multiple routes in East London, while downed trees obstructed traffic in Gonubie and other suburbs. According to Unathi Binqose, the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape transport department, the N10 road near Cradock was closed due to flooding that made driving hazardous. Binqose emphasized the need for motorists to remain vigilant as poor visibility, heavy downpours, and steady rains create unfavorable driving conditions. The department also cautioned about a stationary truck blocking the R67 between Makhanda and Fort Beaufort, as well as an accident on the N2 between Makhanda and Gqeberha. Samkelo Ngwenya, the spokesperson for Buffalo City Metro, advised drivers to avoid crossing flooded bridges and streets and to seek alternate routes. Disaster management teams are responding to areas severely affected by the flash floods.
