Eastwood Barricade Ends After 12 Hours: Deacan Dahlquist Arrested
A 12-hour standoff in Syracuse’s Eastwood neighborhood concluded early Monday with the arrest of 38-year-old Deacan Dahlquist. Dahlquist had barricaded himself in a home at 917 Caleb Ave while armed with a weapon, prompting a shelter-in-place order for residents in the area.
Syracuse police responded to the home around 12:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a suspicious person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers determined that Dahlquist was potentially armed with a gun. A shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area at 1:06 p.m.
SWAT teams, police, and crisis negotiators spent hours attempting to persuade Dahlquist to exit the home. Police utilized a mobile robot to deliver a phone and cigarettes to Dahlquist and enlisted his mother’s assistance in communicating with him via a loudspeaker.
Eventually, after midnight, Dahlquist surrendered and was taken into custody. No one else was present in the home at the time of his arrest.
Dahlquist has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, robbery, and an out of state felony charge. He is currently being held at the downtown jail and may face additional charges related to the standoff.
