In a move designed to enhance pilot development and strengthen ties between two major airlines, easyJet and Virgin Atlantic have announced a new pilot exchange program. The program, set to launch in November 2024, will offer a unique opportunity for 20 easyJet pilots to transition to Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul fleet.
These selected pilots, currently flying Airbus A320s on short-haul routes with easyJet, will gain experience as co-pilots on Virgin Atlantic’s A350 aircraft, flying long-haul routes across the globe. After completing a three-year stint with Virgin Atlantic, the pilots will return to their roles at easyJet, bringing with them valuable experience and a broader skill set.
easyJet emphasizes its commitment to pilot development and career growth, viewing this partnership as a crucial step in providing its pilots with enhanced opportunities. By flying larger aircraft on extended routes, the pilots will gain invaluable experience that will further their careers.
The collaboration benefits both airlines. easyJet pilots will gain experience flying larger aircraft on longer routes, while Virgin Atlantic will benefit from the expertise and experience of seasoned A320 pilots.
This pilot exchange program comes as easyJet is in the midst of a five-year recruitment drive, launched in 2022, with the goal of adding 1,000 new pilots to its roster. This initiative further reinforces easyJet’s position as a leading European airline, committed to expanding its operations and providing exceptional service to its passengers.
