eBay is taking pre-loved fashion to a whole new level this fashion month with their innovative ‘Endless Runway’ events. This initiative will see curated collections of second-hand designer garments grace the catwalks of both New York and London Fashion Week, streamed live on the eBay platform.
The events are designed to highlight the vast selection of luxury vintage and pre-owned pieces available on eBay and promote the idea of circular fashion, where items are given a second life rather than ending up in landfills. eBay is partnering with the British Fashion Council and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to raise awareness about the benefits of circular fashion and encourage consumers to embrace sustainable shopping practices.
“We’re partnering with the British Fashion Council and the CFDA [Council of Fashion Designers of America] to understand how we can really bring circular fashion to the forefront of customers’ minds,” Kirsty Keoghan, eBay’s global general manager of fashion, told Vogue. She emphasizes that the ‘Endless Runway’ concept refers to both the continuous cycle of these garments and eBay’s extensive inventory of pre-loved treasures.
All the runway looks will be available for purchase immediately through eBay Live, alongside daily drops featuring a broader selection of pre-loved items throughout New York and London Fashion Week. “This is about making [pre-loved fashion] really accessible – some of these are past runway pieces,” Keoghan said, noting that prices will start from £125 in the UK and $165 in the US.
For the New York show on September 5th, eBay has tapped TikTok star and stylist Wisdom Kaye to curate the runway looks and special drops, with Vogue contributor Liana Satenstein hosting the eBay Live event. “We wanted to mainly highlight designers that are showing at New York Fashion Week, but also American fashion in general,” Kaye explained, with brands like Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Brandon Maxwell, Christian Siriano, and Khaite all featured in the edits.
In London, on September 12th, stylist Amy Bannerman will curate the show, which will be hosted by model Leomie Anderson. eBay aims to celebrate the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week by showcasing both iconic British fashion houses and emerging designers. “It was important to showcase not just the legends of British fashion, but also the trailblazers from different decades, including those making an impact today,” Bannerman said, emphasizing that the edit includes a range of designers from vintage Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen to contemporary names like Wales Bonner and Craig Green. “I made sure that these contemporary pieces sat comfortably alongside the work of British fashion royalty, creating an exciting blend of past and present,” she added.
With Gen-Z shoppers increasingly embracing pre-loved fashion (according to eBay, 40% of this demographic buys second-hand because they can’t find the styles they like in current collections), the platform hopes that the designers participating in New York and London Fashion Week will take note of this growing trend. “Hopefully this gives brands the confidence and impetus to actually bring back some of those archive pieces,” Keoghan said. “It’s about brands embracing circularity as well.”
eBay’s Endless Runway at London Fashion Week will be livestreamed exclusively on eBay Live, accessible via the eBay app, on September 12th at 6pm.
