Amidst growing opposition pressure, the Election Commission has commenced an examination of complaints filed against a speech delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rajasthan, wherein he suggested that a Congress party victory would result in the redistribution of wealth to members of the Muslim community.
The Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had individually petitioned the poll body to address Modi’s speech, delivered on Sunday. Modi had asserted that a Congress government would reallocate the nation’s wealth to Muslims, referencing an earlier statement where he claimed that the minority community held the primary claim to the country’s resources.
Sources within the EC have confirmed the initiation of the examination process for complaints arising from the Prime Minister’s speech.
