Eco Material Technologies Inc. (Eco), a leading producer and distributor of sustainable construction materials in the United States, has released its comprehensive 2023 Sustainability Report. The report details the company’s significant environmental and social impact across its operations, highlighting key achievements in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices within the cement and concrete industries.
In 2023, Eco diverted over 10.2 million tons of material from landfills, including fly ash, bottom ash, and harvested landfilled ash. This impressive feat resulted in a remarkable 5.9 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided, equivalent to powering over 769,000 homes for an entire year. Eco’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond waste diversion. The company is actively expanding its production of near-zero carbon supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), aiming to double its annual volumes to 20 million tons by 2030. These SCMs, such as PozzoSlag® and PozzoCEM®, can replace up to 100% of ordinary Portland cement in certain applications, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of concrete.
Eco’s dedication to sustainability is further demonstrated by its successful issuance of an additional $125 million in Green Bonds, bringing the total to $650 million. These bonds will be used to fund sustainable projects and innovations, driving the company’s ongoing efforts to decarbonize the construction industry. The company also partnered with ClimeCo and other stakeholders to develop the first-ever U.S. Low-Carbon Cement Protocol for generating voluntary carbon credits, a significant step towards promoting carbon neutrality in the sector.
Eco Material’s commitment to employee safety is equally impressive. The company achieved a Total Recordable Incident Rate below 1.0, significantly lower than the industry average, reflecting a strong commitment to workplace safety.
The 2023 Sustainability Report outlines Eco Material’s comprehensive strategy, focusing on sustainable products, thriving communities, corporate governance, and responsible operations. The company’s partnership with home builder Hive3D exemplifies its commitment to real-world application of sustainable materials. Hive3D is utilizing mortar-like ink, which replaces 50% to 100% of ordinary Portland cement with Eco Material’s products, to produce 3D printed homes. This innovative approach further demonstrates the potential of Eco’s sustainable materials to revolutionize the construction industry.
“Our goal is not just to reduce the carbon footprint of the concrete industry, but to revolutionize how we build for a more sustainable future,” said Grant Quasha, CEO of Eco Material Technologies.
