The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action to challenge the bail granted to Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, in a money laundering case connected to the now-abolished excise policy. On June 21, the ED approached the Delhi High Court with this challenge. According to news agency ANI, the ED intends to request an urgent hearing on the matter. Hindustan Times reported that the plea contesting Kejriwal’s bail is scheduled to be heard by a vacation bench led by Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain on June 21 at 10:30 am.
Kejriwal’s bail was granted on June 20, following his arrest on March 21. The Rouse Avenue Court released him on a bail bond of ₹1 lakh. The AAP, Kejriwal’s political party, expressed their approval of the court’s decision with a statement: “Truth can be troubled, but not defeated. Rejecting all objections of BJP’s ED, the Hon’ble Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister.” The ED had taken action to arrest Kejriwal shortly after the Delhi High Court denied his petition for protection from arrest. This petition challenged summonses issued to him in relation to the case.
