Edged Energy Opens First North American Data Center in Atlanta, Delivering 168 MW of Sustainable Capacity

Edged Energy, a rapidly expanding provider of sustainable infrastructure, has reached a significant milestone with the grand opening of its inaugural North American data center. This cutting-edge facility, strategically situated at 1800 Thomas Street NW in Atlanta, Georgia, marks the transformation of the previously vacant Tilford Yard into a bustling digital hub. This is the first of three data centers planned for the 168 MW high-tech campus, known as Edged Atlanta.

The campus is meticulously designed to accommodate the demanding requirements of high-density Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. It boasts advanced waterless cooling systems and ultra-efficient energy solutions, ensuring both operational excellence and environmental responsibility. The opening ceremony was graced by representatives from the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, local utility provider Georgia Power, and key project collaborators.

Develop Fulton, a key partner in the project, highlighted the significant economic benefits the data center will generate, including nearly $70 million in tax revenue over the next decade. The project’s minimal environmental impact, achieved through zero water usage for cooling and sophisticated electrical systems, further underscores its commitment to sustainability.

Edged Atlanta stands out for its unique optimization of water and energy efficiency, addressing a critical concern in an era of increasing water scarcity. Each data center is equipped with the innovative ThermalWorks waterless cooling system, saving an estimated 664 million gallons of water annually compared to conventional data centers. This modular system can support densities of up to 70 kW per rack with air cooling and 200 kW per rack with plug-and-play liquid cooling integration, all while maintaining industry-leading energy efficiency, achieving an average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15 across the entire portfolio.

Bryant Farland, CEO of Edged, expressed gratitude for Develop Fulton’s collaboration in transforming the brownfield site into a state-of-the-art IT campus. He emphasized Atlanta’s strategic location as the ideal setting for their first North American data center. The project represents a substantial economic investment of $1.69 billion for the region, bringing hundreds of jobs and millions in funding for Atlanta public schools, local government, and essential city services.

Atlanta has emerged as a thriving data center market, boasting a deep talent pool, reliable power, and exceptional fiber connectivity, offering high-speed connections across the nation. Develop Fulton, recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion, plans to implement an outreach program in Atlanta through their Women in Tech Group. This program aims to educate students about opportunities in sustainable infrastructure, cultivate a diverse pool of potential candidates for employment at Endeavour companies, empower women and minorities, and foster interest in sustainable technology among middle and high school students.

The inaugural building on the Atlanta campus is now fully operational, supplying 27 MW of capacity to the region. This facility joins Edged’s expanding network of data centers currently under construction across the U.S., including locations in Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Columbus, and Phoenix. Edged, a subsidiary of Endeavour, boasts a growing portfolio of nearly a dozen new data centers operational or under construction across Europe and North America, with a gigawatt-scale project pipeline.

Edged Energy, a vertically integrated global platform of on-demand data centers, is dedicated to carbon and water neutrality in its operations. Endeavour, the parent company, is an innovation platform dedicated to building sustainable infrastructure companies, ensuring affordable and accessible clean water and renewable energy for all.
