The highly anticipated Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market is set to return to its bustling location on 104th Street, between Jasper Avenue and 102nd Avenue, starting June 15. This eagerly awaited event will take place every Saturday until October 12, offering a vibrant and lively atmosphere for the community to enjoy.
Vendors are currently being carefully selected, with over 75 already expressing their interest. Shoppers can expect to find their favorite vendors, such as Lacombe Fresh, Riverbend Gardens, Reclaim Organics, Ocean Odyssey, Steve & Dan’s, and Sundog Organic Farm. The diverse range of stalls will showcase fresh produce, artisanal goods, and delectable treats, ensuring something for everyone.
The Downtown Business Association (DBA) is proud to be managing the market, recognizing its significance to the community. Foundry Events has been entrusted with the operation of the market, following a competitive RFP process. This partnership aims to deliver a seamless and enjoyable experience for vendors and patrons alike.
Puneeta McBryan, DBA CEO, expressed the excitement surrounding the market’s return: “We’ve received overwhelming feedback from the downtown business community, market vendors, and Edmontonians citywide, indicating that the 104th Street Downtown Farmers’ Market is deeply missed.” McBryan emphasized the positive impact the market will have on the area: “We are confident that bringing this market back to this iconic location will revitalize community spirit, boost the local economy, and provide a compelling reason for people to visit downtown on Saturdays.”
The management group highlighted the added attraction of the numerous outdoor patios along 104th Street, which will further enhance the vibrancy of the area and offer shoppers a delightful post-market experience. Geoff Linden, owner of Credo Coffee, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to see the market return to our doorstep and even more excited about the renewed energy and buzz it will bring back to 104th Street.”
The City of Edmonton’s Downtown Vibrancy Fund will provide financial support for the market, with the EDBA contributing additional resources to ensure its success. The outdoor location offers a significant advantage by eliminating the need for a lease holder, a factor that contributed to the challenges faced by the previous indoor market.
The Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market has a rich history in the community, having previously operated along the outdoor promenade on Saturdays. In 2020, it relocated to the historic Army & Navy building on 103rd Avenue and 97th Street. However, the move coincided with the onset of the pandemic, leading to a significant decline in vendors and shoppers. The market also faced high utility costs, which ultimately led to its closure and bankruptcy filing in January 2024.
The return of the market to its original outdoor location on 104th Street is a testament to its resilience and the unwavering support of the community. The Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market promises to be a vibrant and thriving destination, fostering a sense of community and offering a delightful shopping experience for all.
