Edmonton’s Outdoor Pools Set to Reopen for Summer Season
The long-awaited summer pool season in Edmonton is set to begin with the reopening of Queen Elizabeth outdoor pool on May 18, just in time for the long weekend. Fred Broadstock pool is scheduled to follow suit on May 25.
One of the most exciting additions to this year’s pool season is the much-anticipated return of Mill Creek outdoor pool, which has been closed for the past four years due to extensive rehabilitation work. The City of Edmonton plans to commemorate the reopening with a special event, details of which will be announced later.
Wîhkwêntôwin outdoor pool, formerly known as Oliver pool, and Borden natural swimming pool are both scheduled to open in June. Wîhkwêntôwin is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, which the City of Edmonton plans to recognize with special festivities to be announced later this summer.
Another summer favorite, the City Hall Fountain, will also reopen on May 18 and will remain open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., weather permitting. Splash Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It’s important to note that all reopening dates are subject to weather and air quality conditions. Timed reservation entries will be available seven days in advance of each pool’s opening date, starting May 11 for Queen Elizabeth outdoor pool. However, reservations are not required for any of the pools.
The reopening of Edmonton’s outdoor pools marks the official start of summer in the city, providing residents with a much-needed opportunity to cool off and enjoy the warm weather. With the return of Mill Creek pool and the 100th anniversary celebration of Wîhkwêntôwin pool, this summer season promises to be particularly memorable.
