The Northern Railways issued an order on August 27th, officially changing the names of eight railway stations located within the Lucknow division of Uttar Pradesh. The decision was approved by the Competent Authority and affects the following stations: Kasimpur Halt, Jais, Misrauli, Bani, Nihalgarh, Akbarganj, Wazirganj Halt, and Fursatganj.
The new names are as follows:

.The order clarified that the Numerical Codes of the stations listed in the ‘Alphabetical List of Railway Stations in India’ issued by IRCA, New Delhi, will remain unchanged. The Secretary-General of IRCA will be responsible for making the necessary corrections to the alphabetical codes and names of the stations.
Responding to the name changes, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav took to social media to criticize the BJP government. He urged the government to focus not only on renaming stations but also on improving their conditions and safety measures. Yadav emphasized the need for better safety protocols and expressed concern about the recent record-breaking railway accidents. In his tweet, he stated, “There is a request to the BJP government to change not just the names but also the conditions of the railway stations. …And when you get free time from changing names, then take some time out and think about preventing record-breaking railway accidents.” (With inputs from ANI)
