Strange Scaffold’s third-person neo-noir shooter, El Paso, Elsewhere, is making its way to the silver screen. LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You) is currently in negotiations to star and produce the film alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s Di Bonaventura Pictures and Colin Stark.
The adaptation will reportedly stay faithful to the game’s narrative, featuring protagonist James Savage as he traverses a monster-ridden world to confront his treacherous ex-girlfriend and his own inner demons.
The indie hit, originally released last year, was developed by studio head and narrative director Xalavier Nelson Jr., who also voiced the game’s protagonist. It tells the story of a vampire hunter who embarks on a mission to eliminate his ex-girlfriend before she wreaks havoc on the world.
Although Stanfield’s involvement is still in discussion, Nelson Jr. expressed his excitement on Twitter.
El Paso, Elsewhere is Strange Scaffold’s 2023 venture into third-person shooter gameplay, but it’s not their first endeavor in this universe. The studio previously released El Paso, Nightmare, a first-person shooter in 2022. According to the game’s Steam page, this title is considered a “standalone survival horror FPS side story” set within the same universe as El Paso, Elsewhere. It remains unclear if this storyline will be incorporated or connected to the film.
