In response to allegations of Model Code violations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission has issued notices to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. The poll panel is seeking responses from the heads of both parties, BJP’s J.P. Nadda and Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge, by Monday, April 29, 11 am.
The notices come after the two parties traded accusations of hate speech and divisive comments. The Election Commission is tasked with ensuring the fairness and integrity of the electoral process, including the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct during election campaigns.
The alleged violations are related to comments made by Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi during public rallies. Prime Minister Modi is alleged to have made derogatory remarks against his political opponents, while Rahul Gandhi is accused of making divisive statements along religious lines. The Election Commission’s notices require the party leaders to provide their responses to the specific allegations of violations.
