Electric car sales are soaring, with a 60% year-over-year increase in 2022, as reported by MarketWatch. In response to the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles, U.S. News & World Report has unveiled its rankings of the best hybrid and electric vehicles for 2024.
For the third consecutive year, the Lucid Air reigns supreme as the best luxury electric car. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 takes the title for best electric car that isn’t a luxury vehicle.
Hyundai leads the way with the most awards, including best electric SUV (Ioniq 5) and best hybrid SUV (Tucson Hybrid). Toyota’s Camry Hybrid is crowned the best hybrid car, while the Lexus NX Hybrid earns the distinction of best luxury hybrid.
Tesla’s absence from the winners’ list is noteworthy considering its dominant market share in the U.S., where it held 56.3% of the electric vehicle market from January to October 2022, according to MarketWatch. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s market share was only 4.8%.
U.S. News evaluated 96 electric and hybrid vehicles, including luxury and affordable options, for quality, efficiency, and value to determine its rankings.
