Emergency Service Careers for Women and Girls: Saskatoon Police and Fire Department Host Event

Explore Emergency Services Event Promotes Careers for Women and Girls

The Saskatoon Police Service and fire department are collaborating to host an event specifically designed to promote emergency service careers to women and girls. The Explore Emergency Services event will take place on May 11, and its significance is highlighted by special constable Hailey Erickson.

Erickson underscores the crucial role of diversity and inclusion in emergency services, stating, “When masculinity and femininity are both represented and supported in the field of emergency services, incredible things can happen.” She is passionate about advocating for women and their career aspirations, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Firefighter Brooklyn Maxwell, who attended this event in previous years, credits it for inspiring her to pursue firefighting as a career. She encourages girls and women to come out and learn more about the various roles available in emergency services.

The event will include a panel where participants can ask questions about each field of work. Attendees will also have hands-on learning opportunities to gain firsthand experience in paramedic work and other aspects of firefighting. Maxwell emphasizes, “We love sharing our passions in our careers.”

While the event is primarily geared toward women and girls, the Saskatoon police website states that anyone interested in emergency service careers is welcome to register online. It will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Saskatoon Police Service Headquarters.
