Emerson and MIT Students Set Up Encampments in Solidarity with Palestinians

Emerson College:

Students at Emerson College set up an encampment near Boston Common on Sunday night in solidarity with pro-Palestinian protesters arrested at Columbia University last week. The protesters are calling for the university to support a ceasefire in Gaza and to divest from companies and institutions that support Israel.

MIT:

A similar encampment has been established at MIT, where students and workers have set up tents on Kresge Lawn. The protesters are accusing MIT of providing scientific and technological support to Israel’s military forces.

Response:

Emerson College officials are monitoring the situation and working with the Boston Police Department to ensure safe passage through the alley and maintain campus operations. MIT Israel Alliance has called for the university to clear the encampment, enhance campus security, and discipline students involved.

The protests at Emerson and MIT come amidst ongoing violence in Gaza, where more than 1,200 people have been killed since the start of an Israeli offensive on October 7.
