Emirates is embracing the festive spirit of Kerala’s Onam harvest season with a special culinary experience on its flights. From September 6th to 16th, passengers traveling between Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Dubai will be treated to a taste of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
Across all cabin classes, Emirates is offering authentic Onam cuisine, ensuring every traveler gets a taste of this vibrant celebration. Twice daily flights to Kochi and daily flights to Thiruvananthapuram will feature a meticulously curated selection of Onam’s signature dishes, turning the journey into a flavorful exploration of Kerala’s culinary traditions.
The festive feast begins with traditional snacks like sharkara upperi, sweet jaggery-coated bananas, kaya varuthathu, crispy banana chips, and kondattam mulaku, yogurt-soaked fried chillies. These tantalizing appetizers set the stage for the main event, a selection of essential Onam dips.
Passengers can savor kaalan, a blend of coconut, yogurt, and yam, cucumber pachadi, a refreshing seasoned salad, and puli inji, a sweet-sour ginger chutney. Premium class travelers will enjoy an additional touch of Kerala with pappadam and spicy mango pickle.
For the main course, travelers have a choice between alleppey kozhi curry, a fragrant coconut-based spiced chicken dish, and vegetarian sadhya, a delightful combination of sambar, kootu, and matta rice. Alternatively, they can opt for spiced chicken sukha or mutton sukha, both served with a variety of traditional sides.
To conclude the culinary journey on a sweet note, Onam favorites like palada pradhaman, a creamy rice pudding, and parippu payasam, a sweet lentil pudding, both adorned with nuts and coconut flakes, await. To enhance the authenticity of the experience, all meals are presented on banana leaf liners, bringing a touch of tradition to the dining experience.
To further complement the festive atmosphere, Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system offers over 6,500 channels, including 17 Malayalam movies, ensuring a memorable journey for those observing Onam.
This initiative is part of Emirates’ broader commitment to celebrate global cultures through regionally inspired menus and seasonal offerings, bringing a taste of festive joy to travelers during various festivals such as Diwali, Eid, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Oktoberfest, and Easter.
