Through her book, Marianayagam highlights influential women in STEM, including Dr. Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman to travel to space. The book’s message resonated with young students at Clear Water Academy, who were encouraged to embrace their potential in STEM fields. Grade 4 student Sara Parsons expressed her admiration for the book’s message of empowerment for girls, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and exploring new opportunities.
Marianayagam’s personal experience as a chemical engineer and her involvement with the Alberta Women’s Science Network further illustrate her dedication to promoting STEM education for girls. Her passion stems from her childhood fascination with gravity, which she credits to her grandfather’s teachings. Today, she finds joy in witnessing young children, including her own, engage with STEM concepts and develop a deep understanding of them.
