Encanto Themed Land Coming to Disneyland?

Disneyland Forward, a proposed $1.9 billion expansion plan for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, has expanded its potential roster of new themed lands to 10, with the addition of Encanto. Encanto, a musical comedy film inspired by Colombian culture, tells the story of the Madrigal family, who possess supernatural powers and reside in a magical house. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro indicated that the Encanto franchise is part of an ‘endless stream of stories’ that could be showcased at the Disneyland resort.

The potential Encanto-themed land joins an array of other possibilities, including Avatar, Tangled, Frozen, Peter Pan, Zootopia, Toy Story, Black Panther, Coco, and Tron. The Anaheim City Council has granted preliminary approval for the Disneyland Forward proposal, with a final decision expected on May 7.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World has already announced plans to transform Dinoland U.S.A. into a Mayan-themed Tropical Americas land, incorporating elements from both Encanto and Indiana Jones. Encanto has had a presence at Disney California Adventure as part of the Viva Navidad seasonal celebration and a projection show on the It’s a Small World facade featuring the film’s hit song ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno.’

The latest Encanto-related development brings the number of prospective themed lands in the Disneyland Forward plan to 10. Specific details on which projects will come to fruition will likely be unveiled during the D23 fan event scheduled for August 9-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
