England rugby star Adam Radwan has grabbed headlines after scoring a stunning 50-meter try with just one boot on. It came as a mere consolation, though, for the Newcastle Falcons as they were hammered 85-14 against Bristol Bears. Despite the crushing loss, which saw Bristol climb back up to fourth in the Premiership standings, Radwan’s breakaway try from halfway was a shining moment for the struggling Falcons.
The England international, who has been capped twice, showcased his skills by intercepting the ball just inside the Bristol half and running it in from 50 meters out. Even with only one boot on, he managed to outpace Gabriel Ibitoye and score under the posts.
Falcons media manager Mark Smith commented: “Have to admit this passed me by at the time, but doing Ibitoye on the outside whilst wearing only one boot is quite something.”
Fans have since questioned whether Radwan deserves a spot in Steve Borthwick’s current England squad. One wrote: “Should be in the England squad, scandalous,” expressing their disappointment at the decision not to include the speedster in recent international camps.
Another supporter echoed this sentiment, writing: “Steve Borthwick were you watching?” Radwan earned both of his England caps under former coach Eddie Jones in 2021, and playing for a Newcastle team that is potentially facing a winless Premiership campaign, the winger may have found it difficult to stand out.
However, his future in England’s union side may be taking a backseat as Radwan is reportedly training to compete for Team GB in the sevens event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
