An elite private school in Englewood, New Jersey, was temporarily closed on Wednesday after racist and threatening graffiti messages were discovered in a bathroom. The messages were found in a boys’ bathroom near a library at Dwight-Englewood School, Head of School Jeremy Gregersen said in an email to the school community. The graffiti messages threatened the entire school and also referenced minority students and faculty. However, the school was purportedly advised to not provide further details about what was written. The Englewood Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident, according to NorthJersey.com. They’re examining surveillance footage and interviewing students who were in the building at the time of the incident. A handwriting expert may be called in as well. The incident comes a month after the school uncovered a separate group chat, including the head of the school’s son, to share racist messages. The school is set to reopen on Thursday with added security measures.
