Epic Flight Academy’s $8 million facility, nestled amidst a myriad of aircraft, is a testament to the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals. The inaugural class, comprising 19 aspiring aviation mechanics like Anthony Wurster, embarks on an 18-month journey to acquire their FAA certification. The comprehensive program, costing approximately $45,000, offers students a unique opportunity to transition from automotive mechanics to the aviation industry.
Recognizing the importance of a skilled workforce in driving economic development, CVG CEO Candace McGraw emphasized the critical role that educational initiatives play in sustaining the airport’s growth. She noted that the lack of trained personnel remains the only potential impediment to CVG’s full potential.
CVG’s strategic focus on maintenance, passenger, and cargo operations has proven fruitful, with a recent economic impact study revealing a surge in revenue from $3.5 billion a decade ago to a staggering $9.3 billion in 2022. This increase in flight volume has attracted a diverse range of aircraft to the campus, creating an invaluable learning environment for Epic Flight Academy students.
Interim director Jon Clark highlighted the benefits of this exposure, stating, “We can take them now and they can see how things are actually done in the industry.”” The facility boasts a retired airliner that serves as a classroom, enabling students to conduct inspections and installations under realistic conditions.
