Two-time All-Star guard Epiphanny Prince has retired from playing and joined the New York Liberty as their Director of Player and Community Engagement, the team announced Wednesday. The move comes one day after Prince, 36, announced her retirement as a player after 14 WNBA seasons.
In her new role, Prince will work with the coaching staff, players, and everyone in the Liberty organization to help the team succeed on and off the court. She will also be responsible for developing and implementing community engagement programs.
“I’m very excited about my new role with the Liberty,” Prince said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to work with the coaching staff, players, and everyone in this great organization. Being in my hometown of Brooklyn makes it even more amazing, and I can’t wait to play my part in helping the community.”
Prince is a two-time All-Star and has played for the Chicago Sky, Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm, and Liberty during her WNBA career. She was selected fourth overall by the Sky in the 2010 WNBA Draft.
“We know Piph will be a phenomenal addition to our front office between her decorated playing experience, basketball IQ, and leaguewide knowledge,” Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb said. “Piph’s legendary career is sewn within Brooklyn’s basketball fabric, and as a former Liberty player, this next step in her basketball journey is truly special.”
Prince is a Brooklyn native and played her college basketball at Rutgers University. She was a key member of the Liberty’s 2015 WNBA championship team.
Prince’s addition to the Liberty’s front office is a sign of the team’s commitment to building a strong and successful organization. She brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the Brooklyn community to her new role.
