Eric Trump Defends Father in Hush Money Trial, but Makes Factual Error

As the hush money trial against former US President Donald Trump entered its second day of witness testimony, his son, Eric Trump, spoke out in his father’s defense. However, Eric Trump made a factual error in his remarks.

Donald Trump arrived at the courthouse in Manhattan on Tuesday to face a trial regarding allegations of falsifying business records to pay $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016. During the trial, reports indicate that Trump’s attorney had a heated exchange with Judge Juan Merchan.

Speaking with Fox News on Monday, Eric Trump stated, “Every time I watch my father walk into that courtroom, it breaks my heart because [the Democrats] will stop at nothing […] to take the man down and no one believes this nonsense, right?” He also claimed that his father is being wronged and being trialled as the presidential elections in November are approaching.

However, Eric Trump incorrectly stated that his father was the commander-in-chief of the country during the hush money payment. The payment was made in 2016, before the elections, and therefore Trump was not yet in office.

Eric Trump’s statement highlights the complexity of the ongoing legal proceedings against his father. The trial is expected to continue for several weeks, with the outcome having the potential to significantly impact Donald Trump’s political future.
