International team captain Mike Weir has appointed Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy, and Camilo Villegas as his captain’s assistants for the 2024 Presidents Cup.
The competition will be held at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada from September 24-29. Weir expressed his excitement about working with his assistants, emphasizing their collective experience and commitment to building on the momentum of the International Team’s recent performances.
The Presidents Cup is a biennial team competition that pits the United States against an international roster of players from outside Europe. The U.S. team has dominated the event, but the International Team has shown signs of improvement in recent years.
Els is a South African golfer with an impressive record in the Presidents Cup. He holds the record for most matches won by an International team player and captained the team in 2019. Immelman, who captained the team in 2022, has also competed in and assisted the International Team in previous years.
Ogilvy, an Australian golfer, has captained the team three times and has also participated as a player. Villegas, from Colombia, made his debut as a captain’s assistant in 2022 and has also competed in the Presidents Cup.
Jim Furyk is the captain of the 2024 U.S. roster, but he has yet to announce his assistants.
