Estate Agent Boss Charged with Murder of Ex-Fiancee at Luxury Hotel
James Cartwright, a 60-year-old estate agent boss, stands accused of coercive control and the murder of his former fiancée, Samantha Mickleburgh, 54. The incident reportedly occurred at the upscale Pennyhill Park Hotel, a popular destination for England’s rugby team.
On April 14th, police responded to the hotel after Cartwright alerted medical personnel regarding Mickleburgh’s unconscious state. The couple had initially met online in September 2022 and moved in together in March 2023.
At Guildford Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that Cartwright and Mickleburgh were marking his 60th birthday with a stay at the luxurious hotel. On the following morning, Mickleburgh was discovered naked, face up, with a pool of blood present.
A post mortem examination revealed extensive bruising on both her neck and the base of her skull. Cartwright maintains his innocence and will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday for further proceedings.
The Pennyhill Park Hotel, nestled amidst 120 acres of countryside, boasts 123 luxury rooms priced at up to £1,200 per night. The venue has hosted and trained England’s rugby players during the Six Nations tournament. It features a Michelin-starred restaurant, spa facilities, and swimming pools.
