While I’m not usually a fan of Hollywood dynasties, Eugene and Dan Levy are a delightful exception. Their unique brand of intergenerational humor, which made their show “Schitt’s Creek” a television phenomenon, translated seamlessly to the 2024 Emmy Awards.
It’s been a rough few years for awards show hosting. The format often feels stale and repetitive, with predictable jokes and awkward moments. But the Levys brought a refreshing energy to the stage. Their jokes landed, they seemed genuinely amused by each other, and their genuine rapport added a heartwarming element to the evening.
One of the most memorable bits involved the inherent irony of Hulu+ being considered part of the LGBTQ+ community. This clever and relatable observation showcases the Levys’ ability to find humor in everyday situations.
With a long awards-show season ahead, we could all use a dose of the Levys’ charming and insightful humor. Their performance was a reminder that awards shows don’t have to be predictable and uninspired. They can be entertaining, insightful, and even a little bit heartwarming – just like the Levys themselves. I, for one, wouldn’t mind seeing them grace the stage at more awards ceremonies.
