Spain secured their place in the semifinals with a dramatic 2-1 victory over host nation Germany in the quarterfinal. A late goal by Mikel Merino in extra time proved to be the difference. Meanwhile, France edged out Portugal in a tense penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in their quarterfinal clash.
England’s journey to the semifinals was equally dramatic, overcoming Switzerland in another penalty shootout after a 5-3 scoreline. The Netherlands, on the other hand, defeated Turkiye 2-1 in their quarterfinal encounter, thanks to a Stefan de Vrij header and a Mert Muldur own goal.
