EV Charging Adoption in Multifamily Properties: 8% of Owners Are Onboard

The adoption of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in multifamily properties is steadily gaining momentum. According to new research from Parks Associates, 8% of multifamily property owners and operators currently have EV chargers installed in their largest property. This represents a significant step towards meeting the growing demand for EV charging solutions in residential settings.

The research further reveals that nearly one-third (32%) of multifamily property owners are planning to deploy, upgrade, or replace EV charging stations within the next 12 months. This indicates a clear commitment to providing EV charging amenities to residents, recognizing the increasing popularity of electric vehicles.

The EV charging market for multifamily properties is still in its early stages but is experiencing rapid growth. However, challenges remain, including the cost of retrofitting existing buildings and the significant investment required for infrastructure upgrades. Despite these challenges, EV charging is becoming a key differentiator for multifamily properties, attracting environmentally conscious residents and enhancing the overall value proposition.

Parks Associates will be highlighting this research and more at its upcoming Smart Spaces: Apartments, Hospitality, and Community Living event in Dallas on September 24-25. This event brings together building executives, technology leaders, and hardware, middleware, and software providers to discuss the latest innovations in multidwelling and hospitality environments.

The conference will delve into the critical role of reliable connectivity for EV charging and explore the broader implications for smart energy management. As more residents adopt electric vehicles, the need for smart energy management solutions will increase, making multifamily properties essential hubs for energy distribution and storage.

The Smart Spaces event will feature keynote speeches from industry experts, including Kaushik Mani (Director, Amazon Key), Ian Mattingly (President, Luma Residential), and Thomas Stanchak (Managing Director of Sustainability, Stoneweg US). The pre-show workshop will include a special session with speakers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The conference will also offer insightful sessions focused on energy and multifamily design and infrastructure, featuring speakers from leading organizations such as Cox Communications, Greystar Real Estate Partners, and Resideo.
