Janet Garcia, 27, was arraigned on Monday for allegedly stabbing and killing her 4-year-old son, Ariel, dozens of times. The incident occurred on March 27, when Ariel was reported missing from an apartment in Everett, Washington. Garcia’s mother, who had sought custody of Ariel due to her daughter’s substance abuse issues, initially went to the apartment to serve papers. She discovered a large bloodstain on the carpet, indicating a serious injury had taken place. Garcia initially claimed that Ariel had fallen and hit his head, but later gave inconsistent statements about his injuries. Police found drops of blood on Garcia’s shoes and shirt and used her cellphone data to track her movements near the location where Ariel’s body was found wrapped in a blanket with multiple stab wounds. Garcia is currently being held on a first-degree murder charge.
