Everton Faces Selection Crisis Ahead of Tottenham Clash

Everton manager Sean Dyche has a major selection headache ahead of their Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. With only 14 recognized first-team players available, the Toffees are facing an early-season crisis. This shortage comes despite generating a substantial £70 million from the sales of Amadou Onana, Lewis Dobbin, and Ben Godfrey.

Dyche has confirmed that Everton is open to considering offers for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin should a substantial bid arrive. “We are stretched, unfortunately,” Dyche told reporters on Thursday. “We are down to around 14 recognized first-team players at the minute – that is not perfect.”

The squad has been hit hard by injuries, and despite spending around £40 million on new signings, Everton’s finances are tight, limiting their ability to bring in reinforcements. “We have not got much financially to correct the situation,” added Dyche. “We have just got to work with the players and hope their fitness gets back to being fully fit and then staying fit.”

Calvert-Lewin’s potential departure adds another layer of complexity to Everton’s predicament. “Any offer of a certain level would have to be looked at by the club. We are in a better position because of player trading and how much we have lowered the wages but it is not solved,” said Dyche.

Everton narrowly avoided relegation last season despite facing points deductions for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club’s takeover agreement with prospective owner 777 Partners expired in June, and the Friedkin Group abandoned their plans to purchase a majority stake in the club last month. Everton’s Premier League season got off to a poor start with a 3-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton will kick off at 7:30 pm IST at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. In India, the match will be broadcasted live on the Star Sports Network and streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar. In the UK, the match will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate and streamed live on the Discovery+ app.
